The Basics of Halloween
Halloween is a very fun holiday for dressing up, eating candy, and spending time with friends. The most significant part of Halloween is the costumes. Kids dressing up in fun outfits that show who they want to be is an amazing way to demonstrate self expression. Many people all around the world wait for Halloween just so they are able to get as much candy as they want with no parental exceptions. Just in the United States alone, over 600 million pounds of candy are bought every year, equivalent to $3.5 Billion dollars. All of this just for one night!
I interviewed Iris Ramos about her past Halloween experiences and how her Halloween costumes show who she is as a person. She told me that she really liked Halloween as a kid, and she loves dressing up. Her favorite Halloween costume from her childhood was Elsa from Frozen.

“How did this costume (Elsa) make you feel about yourself?”
“It made me feel really brave and it encouraged me to let go of my thoughts.”
Iris loved Elsa’s dress and said that she loved the character in the Disney Movie. “Let It Go” was her favorite song from the movie. Although Disney princesses are one of the most popular costumes for girls, many unique and unusual costumes bring them happiness. One of Iris’s dream costumes that she wasn’t able to dress up as was a trash can!
“I was in love with trash trucks and I wanted to be a trash can one year.”
I wanted to know more about what other characters she’s been for Halloween, especially in recent years.
“I was an M&M, Mario, and last year I was Ratatouille.”
How Halloween has its influence on the Ramos Family
Even as we grow up and get older, our appreciation for festive holidays never goes away. Iris’s favorite costume from her teen years was Ratatouille, and she got extremely excited when talking about that costume. Iris has siblings as well, and family traditions during the holidays are essential for keeping the festive magic alive.
“I have an older sister who’s 35, another older sister who’s 17, a younger sister who’s about to be 13 and a 7 year old little brother.”
“I personally wasn’t with them, but they love Halloween too. They always bug me for candy.”
Iris really appreciates and cares for her siblings, so I wanted to know if they enjoyed Halloween too.
“I personally wasn’t with them, but they love Halloween too. They always bug me for candy.”
Some people tend to get overwhelmed with the holidays and wouldn’t choose to decorate their houses, so I wanted to ask Iris what her thoughts were.
“If you had unlimited money, would you go all out decorating for the holidays?”
“Yes ma’am, I would spend my money on Halloween decorations.”
Iris is one of the most festive people I know, and I’m sure that stems from her family and how they decorate for the holidays each and every year. Spending the time to appreciate the characters we love by dressing up and bringing others light and laughter is such a fun thing to do.
“I love Ratatouille!”
