Nuview Bridge’s first ever Mock Trial took place this week (Monday-Wednesday) in our very own library. During Mrs. Van’s Forensic Science, and Mrs. Lopez’s US history 3rd period classes, we got to see in depth what it was like to experience a Mock Trial.
The mock trial was a “case” that involved the death of Harmony, and the prosecution of Andy Allen. The outcome of this trial was that, Andy Allen was found guilty on the accounts of manslaughter and obstruction of justice, beyond reasonable doubt. We also later found of that this mock trial was based on a board game. Mrs Van states, “Yes, so murder mystery games are like all the rage.”
Many people in the jury stated that though the defendants started off strong on the first day, they lost enough evidence to stay consistent making the prosecutors case easier to develop.
“The defendants were rambling most of the time”, “Prosecutors had a stronger case and more evidence”, and “It was very hectic and confusing at first”, were among some of the many common statements from both the jury, witnesses, prosecutors, and to our surprise, even the attorney for the defendants. This doesn’t mean that our first mock trial wasn’t a success it just means that there is room for improvement. Maybe next time there will be an equal fight with strong arguments on both sides.
