How do people celebrate Thanksgiving differently with their families and what traditions have been in their family for a while? Well, I’m here to explore and answer that question. In this article I interviewed two students at NBECHS which were Mya Mora and Melissa Moreno. My first question was to Mya and this question was, “How do you celebrate Thanksgiving in a way that is unique or different from others?” To this Mya responded, “…we don’t traditionally make turkey, but every year is different, sometimes we make ham, pozole, or turkey.” Lots of families celebrate with the main meal being turkey every year but Mya’s family does it different with varieties of meals every celebration. The next question I asked her was, “Why do you feel that this is unique from others?” Mya then answered, ”I think this is unique because often when people think of Thanksgiving they think of turkey but when my family thinks of Thanksgiving, we think of my tias awesome pozole.” Many people prefer other meals than the traditional turkey which is why some families choose to switch it up. In this case, Mya’s family switches it up to a variety.

The next person I interviewed was Melissa and I asked her, “How does your family celebrate Thanksgiving?” Melissa responded by saying, “We go to our aunts house and we all bring our own dish. Mostly everyone in the family goes and when its time to eat we pray and say what we are grateful for.” This is one way many families celebrate their Thanksgivings as well. Praying before the main meal is very common as well by Christian religion to be grateful for the food eaten and blessings given. Also, many families bringing their own meals is something many families around the world participate in to make sure they don’t go anywhere empty handed but instead with food to share with everyone. These are just two different families and two different ways people celebrate. Many other families in the world celebrate very differently but this is just a small look into what the rest of the world does on this special day.
