Second-semester slump is real; almost everyone has experienced it. First semester, you’re all caught up with your one, you feel energized, you stay on top of your work, and you get good scores on most of your assignments. Coming back from winter break, you expect to feel energized since you were on break, but it’s the opposite. You start caring a bit less about grades and assignments, you start slacking, and you just let your work stack up.
I’ve personally experienced a second-semester slump last year. I was on time with every assignment and getting good scores on all of my assignments. For the whole first semester, my grades were always high. Second-semester things started to shift. My grades didn’t go down, but I did notice I started turning in more assignments late, I wasn’t getting perfect scores on assignments, my work was piling up, and I personally felt drained. I felt no motivation to do my work and felt like it didn’t make a difference if I did it or not. This year, I’m trying to do my assignments right when they’re posted. Sometimes I still turn in assignments a bit late, but I’m working on it and believe I can get through second semester slump.
I interviewed Keyla Tiscareno and asked her if she feels a difference in her effort in the first semester vs the second semester, and she said yes, she said she feels like shes trying less hard in the second semester and that she feels unmotivated to do her work. Most people feel this way because of how hard they try in the first semester, it wears them out, so by the time its second semester, they just feel tired and might even feel like there’s no point in trying to do their work.
