When it’s lunch time, many students don’t eat lunch. They would rather not eat all day because of the food they are served. Many students would love to order outside food instead. However, we do have a policy that prohibits outside food. Shouldn’t students be able to order food? I went around the school asking students and staff if they think it would be a great idea to be able to bring in food. Is it unsafe, or should it be allowed?
When asking students if they would like to order food. Most of the students said yes since they don’t really like school food. Since many say, the food is processed already. Fernando Abundis, a junior student here, stated that “It’s fake meat, you can tell that it has been processed, it’s not healthy.” So if the school was considered if it was the food wasn’t nutritious. Neither is there. So what is the real reason?
As I continued to interview teachers on whether students should be able to be allowed to order food. Their concern wasn’t that it wasn’t nutritious. Their concern was for the office ladies. Since everything will have to go into the office for safety regulations. So it would be more challenging for them to keep everyone’s order. Making sure no one eats it. However, one thing that surprised teachers was that students with free periods weren’t able to bring in food as they came to school. Mr. Smith, our Chemistry teacher, states, “That I wasn’t aware of that, I think that is unnecessarily strict.”
As I went to interview Ms. Asberry, our Geometry & Algebra 1 teacher, she stated, “I think so, because I mean, if students brought lunch from home, you could bring it in, so why not that, right?” So maybe letting students with free periods bring in food. However, I interviewed a student, Aaron Gonaolzes, a junior here, about whether we should be allowed to bring in something for free periods. He stated, “Well, it depends really, like something for you or like a friend, then yeah, of course, but something big like a hug meal, yeah, no, that’s too much.”
On looking back on multiple interviews, I saw one thing that many agreed with. I should be an award. When I was talking with Mr.Clark, a teacher here, I asked him if we should award kids with a certain GPA level. He stated, “I do like that idea, but maybe in addition to that, we can tie it in with something that’s going on with ASB.” So maybe ASB can help with awarding students with GPA levels.
