As the new year begins, People rush to celebrate, spend time with family, and, as per tradition, make New Year’s resolutions. For those who don’t know, a new year resolution is a promise to make a change that you carry throughout the new year. Some of these are goals as well. Such as getting better grades, indulging more in fitness, limiting your screen time more and more, etc! Andrea Valenzuela, she has quite a few New Year’s Resolutions!
Her goal for the new year is to start off strong. Typically, she admits, she isn’t one to follow through with her resolutions. A lot of other people share her struggle as well. But this year, she is positive to follow through with the goals she set with hernew found determination and hope for the year.
One of her new year resolutions, like many students, is for better grades. To achieve these, she set up steps to ensure they’re attainable. One of these steps is to study more. Last year, Andrea wasnt too keen on studying. However, this year she invented ways to study and be interested. For example, she created a small study group with her friends to learn and to make it more bearable. She also found out that studying doesn’t just have to be a book and paper! She found ways to put studying in her games, flashcards, you name it! Now her boring old studying is all last year. This year, she’ll be sure to commit to her fun new inventions and her great friends to motivate her on the way there. She feels confident about this one!
Another goal of hers is to save money. Andrea admits that she’s a bit of an overspender when it comes to her money. A lot of the time, when she goes out, she manages to blow half of her savings! But this year, she promised to limit herself, for the sake of her and her wallet. This time, she’s come up with multiple strategies to help her with her spending addiction.
One of these is budgeting! She created a monthly budget for herself, limiting it to 70 dollars. The rest of her money for the month goes into savings, which she vows not to touch, no matter the temptation. Whenever she goes out as well, she asks herself, “Do I really need this? Or do I just want this?” Saying this helps her regulate herself, as well as recalling all the stuff she bought in the past, which she now does not use. She also asks herself which she would rather buy when she goes out. Doing this helps her learn the importance of money, as well as being mindful of what she needs. So far, she admits it’s hard. But then she reminds herself that it will be harder once she has no money to spend. She isn’t as confident about this goal, but she is dedicated!
