When starting off high school, some of us struggle with figuring out what classes to take, or what classes not to take. There are many ways you could get advice on those subjects like asking a counselor but why not ask the kids who have been in the same spot as you? I have asked our senior Knights to give the lower classmen advice when it comes to taking college classes, and advice about school just in general and here is their input.
I asked 2 people, “If you could give the lower classmen one piece of college advice, what would you say?”
Juliana Medrano who is in 12th grade said, “I wouldn’t recommend taking foreign language classes until your junior year because of the workload, and make sure you take those classes seriously.” Noemi Silva Perez who is also in 12 grade said, “The biology classes and labs are not that hard, just study the material, and figure out why it makes sense.”
I then asked another 2 seniors, “What general advice would you give the lower classmen?”
Melanie Lopez, a senior said, “Check your emails, especially if you’re taking math for liberal art students, I made that mistake, read those emails”. I also asked Fatima Sanchez and she stated, “Put yourself out there and join sports, clubs, and things that you find interesting”.
The last question I asked them was, “If you could give the lower classmen one piece of advice for the long run what would you say?”
Milo, a 12th grader said, “Do not think just because you have 3 more years of high school left that your grades don’t matter the first year, that’s not true. Your grades matter freshman year. Keep your grades up. Don’t fail classes. Go to tutoring and get help.” The next senior I asked was Vanessa Taylor and she stated, “Learn to manage your time, IMMEDIATELY AND PUT DOWN THE PHONE!”
